Jan Jack’s Laughter-House Comedy Club is on the move!
After ten years at the Red Lion Hotel, Basingstoke, we will be picking up our stage and relocating to the fabulous Apollo Hotel Basingstoke with effect from Thursday 12th April.
Our March 8th show will still be at the Red Lion Hotel, so don’t turn up at the wrong venue!
So where did all this start? Well, Jan Jack’s Laughter-House was born when I wandered into the Red Lion in the summer of 2007; a rookie comedian; fed up with performing at various dodgy gigs in London. “Fancy running a comedy club?” I asked them. Three months later we were up and running. Well, up….but nearly not running; our charming headline act pulled out at 9.00pm the night before. That was a baptism of battery acid!
We quickly gained a great reputation and in 2013 I was asked to be the mentor for the BBC South Comic Relief Stand up if you Dare project which was filmed at Laughter-House. This photo shows the BBC man looking slightly anxious at what I might say next.
Over the years our little club has been getting Stuffed to the Rafters with laughter. So stuffed, in fact, that we now need a bigger venue.
After a chat with the Apollo Hotel, the Deal was Done – and they’re delighted about it, especially as Hotel Manager Paul Fearon is a real comedy fan.
We want to say a huge THANK YOU to The Red Lion Hotel, who gave us a fantastic start. We’d also like to thank our loyal customers – many of whom discovered us years ago and have never left us.
So…it’s an affectionate farewell to the Red Lion on March 8th and then it’s a big HELLO to Jan Jack’s Laughter-House – Live at the Apollo Hotel with effect from 12 April 2018. See you there!
